How To Win At Life — and be happy

The world will try to bring you down. Just go ahead and accept that. However, you are the one who chooses to let it keep you down or not. You are responsible for your own life. And yes, there are bad times, but you choose whether those times define you, or if you will be an overcomer and thrive.

Here are 5 things you can do to help take control and live a better life.

  1. Don’t gossip.

Whether speaking it or listening, gossip is a killer of emotions and friendship. If you are surrounded by people that merely love gossip, limit your time with them and when you are around them, encourage more positive conversation.

  1. When you have angry thoughts or negative feelings, write the opposite.

Joy. Beautiful. Brave. Happy. Dream. Just a few examples of the words you can write, or draw a pretty picture. I have trained myself into a habit now that when I go to a paper with negative intent, by the time my pen touches paper, it spills positivity. And it turns my emotions around. When we let angry thoughts or words spill out, they strengthen and take more control. So take away the power by refusing to give negativity your time.

  1. Unfollow.

You know that friend who always has something bad to say or negative to share? Yeah, you know who I am talking about. You don’t have to unfriend to escape it, I get that we have friends we love that just drain the feed, but we love them. Hit the “unfollow” button. They’ll remain your friend, you keep in touch, but you choose when to give them time or not. Social media is almost frightening in that it can tell what you are into by following your searches and likes, and it will give you more of those things. So focus more on the funny, encouraging, motivating and positive people/posts. You have the power to change the stream.

  1. Skip the news.

It isn’t worth it. News isn’t about staying informed anymore, it’s about who can crap on others the most, or find the most heartbreaking story to go viral. Instead look up things like GoalCast and other pages and sites that provide positive stories of people who make a difference. They’re our there!

  1. Perspective and Attitude.

I am sure you have heard this before and just want to roll your eyes, but this is huge! It does not matter how much or little you have, or how blessed your life is, you will not be happy until you find it within. Your attitude and the perspective you choose to take determines more about your life than anything anyone else can do.

So take your life back. At the end of the day, no matter what you have been through, you are the one who defines you. So change the conversation with yourself and live.

Oh and follow me! It is my goal to brighten your day.
